SAR chapter installs members

The Sons of the Plains Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution hosted a Western Kansas Regional Meeting at the Lone Wolf Restaurant in Ellinwood on Saturday, Oct. 7. State Society President Dennis Nelson of Overland Park, Vice President Bobbie Hulse of McPherson, Western Vice President Stan Jantz of Hoisington, and Color Guard Commander Dewey Fry of Stilwell were on hand to help with installation of 15 new members. Garden Club hears little-known facts about chrysanthemums

The beautiful chrysanthemum is the Flower of the Month for November in the United States. In China it represents cheerfulness. In Australia it is a popular Mother's Day gift. But in Japan and France and New Orleans the white mum is a symbol of death and is often used at funerals.

4-H Shooting Sports organizational meeting Tuesday

We are very proud of the success of our 4-H Shooting Sports members. Three members qualified for national last year and the state of Kansas shooting sports placed second in the nation! Albert Sayler feted with grave marking ceremony

The Sons of the Plains Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution honored late SAR Compatriot Albert Lowell Sayler with a grave marking ceremony at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Great Bend Cemetery, 4500 Broadway, Great Bend. State President Dennis Nelson, State Vice President Bobbie Hulse and State Color Guard Commander Dewey Fry were on hand to provide honors. Justin Engleman, Great Bend, president of the Sons of the Plains Chapter, was master of ceremonies and delivered the memorial address.

Beadles-Fry named the Pilot Club Ambassador

Each year, the Great Bend Pilot Club supports the efforts of Pilot International through a multitude of activities. The original Foundation - Pilot International Foundation was established in 1975 to support the community-based work of Pilot Clubs by promoting the awareness and prevention of brain-related disorders, and improving the lives of those affected by such disorders, through education, volunteerism, financial support and research.
