4H’ers compete in NW KS Air Rifle competition

On March 4, 11 Barton county 4H'ers traveled to Hays to compete in the NW KS/Ellis County Air Rifle competition. There were 42 competitors representing 12 counties at the match.

Lions pride to FHSU

The 79 Lions Clubs of Western Kansas District 17-K will hold their annual District Convention on Saturday, March 18, at Memorial Union on the FHSU Campus. International guests will be Melvin and Virginia Bray of New Jersey.

Pancakes and sausage at Masonic Hall

The Great Bend Masonic Lodge No. 15, A.F.&A.M., will hold a pancake and sausage feed from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 17, at the lodge, 1917 17th St. Cost is $5 per person; kids 5 years old and younger eat free. This is a fundraiser to support scholarship programs.

Barton County 4H’ers attend Sedgewick County Air Rifle Match

Local 4H'ers traveled to Sedgwick County on Feb. 25, to compete in an air rifle competition. There were eight Barton county 4H'ers and 51 4H'ers from other counties across the state.

Garden Club members learn the language of flowers

Want to tell someone, "My heart is breaking due to your fickleness"? Just send them a tussie mussie containing deep red carnations and larkspur. So learned 14 members of Great Bend Garden Club during a program describing and illustrating the various ways flowers and other herbs and plants can be used as communication between people. In addition, nature has perfected a variety of ways flowers and plants communicate with lesser animals. Pilot Club meeting

The Pilot Club of Great Bend and the clubs of Pilot International focus on doing more and caring more. Horse Hippology Team places first

The State 4-H Horse Panorama is held at Rock Springs Ranch and members participate in several activities, including hippology, that can enhance learning for 4-H members by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science. Participants were able to share their knowledge through the hippology contest, quiz bowl, demonstrations, public speaking, photography and educational posters.
