Great Bend Police Department officers were dispatched to Charlie’s Bar, 1109 Main in Great Bend, in reference to several fights at about 2 a.m. Saturday, a GBPD news release said.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they found multiple fights going on behind the bar. At that time, Joseph Givens, 26, of Great Bend, reportedly pulled a handgun and fired it into the air.

According to the GBPD, once Givens discharged the gun, the crowd fled the area. There were no injuries reported at this time.

Givens was arrested and booked into the Barton County Jail on a charge of unlawful discharge of a firearm. He was released after posting a $1,000 surety bond.
