The Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to an injury crash around 7 a.m. Wednesday on K-4, approximately 6 miles west of Hoisington. Upon arrival deputies located a truck tractor and semitrailer that had left the roadway and crashed into a creek bed. The truck was on fire when deputies arrived.

Sheriff Brian Bellendir said the investigation at the scene indicates that a 1999 Peterbilt truck tractor operated by Randy L. Gamble, age 52, of Pacific Junction, Iowa, was eastbound on K-4 when the truck left the roadway and struck the north guardrail on the bridge. The truck and trailer continued eastbound across the creek, coming to rest on the east side in the north ditch. Hoisington Fire Department was able to quickly bring the blaze under control.

Gamble was able to exit the vehicle and was transported to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington with non-life-threatening injuries. Both the truck and trailer were a total loss.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Hoisington Fire and Hoisington EMS. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
