HOISINGTON — On August 10, 1933, Jeanette Aliene Lewellen was born to Clara Stipes and Roy C. Lewellen in Hoisington, Kansas. She passed away on July 8, 2018, in Willow Park, Texas, after a year of convalescing from different illnesses.


After high school, she married Robert Reed Shirer and together they had two children. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother, Jimmy Lee Lewellen, her stepfather, James Welch Cass, her stepbrother, J.W. Cass, Jr., her husband Robert, and son, David Reed.
Living relatives include her daughter, Rhonda K. Watson, son-in-law John C. Watson, and granddaughter, Laura K. Watson. Also her stepsister, Mary Helen Cass Munk and nephew Jason, brother-in-law, Warren Shirer, niece Kayla Shirer Griffen and family, nephew Brad Shirer and wife Sarah, and numerous cousins.


She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hoisington, Kansas. She was president of Business and Professional Women’s Organization, president of the United Methodist Women’s Group, and had been a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, member of First United Methodist Church Choir, and trustee of First United Methodist Church of Hoisington. Also Order of the Eastern Star, Hoisington, from which she received her 50-year membership pin. She also served her community as an elected county commissioner of Barton County, Kansas, from 1976 to 1988.
She loved her friends, church, and country, serving others, playing bridge and any candy with caramel in it, especially Milky Ways.


Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, 467 W 3rd, Hoisington, Kansas. There will be a fried chicken dinner following and all are invited. Private family graveside will be in Hoisington Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
