Donald Rugan of Claflin will celebrate his 80th birthday on Nov. 11 with a card shower.
Don was born on Nov. 11, 1937, in Great Bend to Emmet and Laura Rugan. Don was raised on the original family farm homestead near Claflin and resides there today. In 1955 he graduated from Claflin High School and later enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Sill, Okla. Don attended diesel mechanic school in Kansas City and later returned to the family farm where is was active in managing the farming and livestock operation until his recent retirement.
On Nov. 2, 1962, he married Lucinda “Cindy” Johnson in Ellinwood. They were married for 49 years before Cindy passed away on Aug. 16, 2013.
Don has three children, a daughter Cynthia Odden of Williamsburg, Va., and two sons, Richard Rugan of Claflin, and Robert Rugan of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Tanner and Ashley Odden of Williamsburg, Va., Sydney, Brady and Delaney Rugan of Claflin, and Wyatt and Olivia Rugan of Great Bend.
