Bat Cats win Jayhawk game

DERBY – Great Bend Bat Cat Chris Swanberg drove home four runs to spark a 8-5 victory Wednesday over the Derby Twins, the Bat Cats’ first Jayhawk League baseball win. The Bat Cats (1-5 Jayhawk) travel to Haysville starting Thursday.
Barton Cougar pitcher Easton Smith (Ellis) worked seven innings with two strikeouts.
Barton Cougar Nolan Riley doubled home Swanberg and Zack Berohn scored on a groundout for a 2-0 lead after two innings. Reece Johnson scored on a passed ball to ignite a four-run fifth inning. Swanberg’s single scored Austin McNicholas and Blaine Ray. Anthony Schatz’s single scored Swanberg for a 6-0 lead.
Derby’s Braxton Wehrle doubled home Toi Moyer and Toren Craig in the fifth inning. Toren Craig scored on Brent Herbert’s seventh-inning groundout.
Swanberg singled home McNicholas in the seventh inning. Swanberg doubled home Reece Johnson in the eighth inning for an 8-3 lead.
Derby’s Brent Herbert drilled a two-run homer off Chandler Gant that scored Wehrle in the ninth inning.
