GARDEN CITY — Great Bend Panther medalist Jordan Black shot a 760 series, the second highest in school history Tuesday. Black fired games of 287, 257 and 216 to spark the Panthers to a 7-4 head-to-head victory over Western Athletic Conference rival Garden City. Black earned WAC Player of the Year last season.
Great Bend won two games, 914-890 and 940-864 to take command of the series format. Great Bend won one Baker match 216-192. Panther Kameron Keener placed runner-up 670 (225-233-212) and Bryce Moore placed fifth 532 (227-261-144). The Panthers’ hot trio helped them rally when their other trio finished 10th, 11th and 12th.
The defending 6A state champions from Garden City smoked Great Bend 10-1. Great Bend’s Jordan Vsetescka placed runner-up 528 (156-215-157). Sarah Mehlhaff placed sixth 475 (161-157-157). Garden City’s Ryleigh Whitehurst placed first 599 as the Buffaloes earned four of the top five medalist spots. Five Buffaloes return from last year’s 6A state champions.
Great Bend competes Saturday at Andover.
