FHSU announces scholarships for 2018-19 year

HAYS – Local students are among the winners of general academic scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year from Fort Hays State University.
This listing includes some students who have won additional scholarships since being recognized earlier for awards presented to them at FHSU Student Recognition Programs from January through March.
Area students include: Bazine: Baylee Holecek, 2018 Ness City High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology. Holecek, daughter of Misty Holecek, Bazine, plans to major in psychology.

Bison: Allie Pakkebier, 2018 Otis-Bison High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in nursing. Pakkebier, daughter of Lea Pakkebier, Bison, plans to major in nursing.
Claflin: Julie Donecker, 2018 Central Plains High School graduate, received a $2,000 University Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in education. Donecker, daughter of Kevin and Elaine Donecker, Claflin, plans to major in elementary education; Kylee Girard, 2016 Central Plains High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Girard, daughter of Joey and Sheri Girard, Claflin, plans to major in nursing.
Dighton: Maritza Chavarria, 2018 Dighton High School graduate, received a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in chemistry. Chavarria, daughter of Alberto and Sanjuana Chavarria, Dighton, plans to major in chemistry; Balinda Conine, 2018 Dighton High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Conine, daughter of Aaron and Lisa Conine, Dighton, plans to major in biology; Jordan Horn, 2018 Scott Community High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in health and human performance. Horn, son of Lloyd and Jeannie Horn, Dighton, plans to major in health and human performance; Destiny Popp, 2016 Dighton High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Popp, daughter of Chad and Marlene Rupp, Dighton, plans to major in radiologic technology; Macie Price, a 2018 Scott Community High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Price, daughter of Rick and Cortnie Price, Dighton, plans to major in biology; Payden Shapland, 2016 Dighton High School graduate and a Sterling College transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Shapland, daughter of Gary and Janet Shapland, Dighton, plans to major in biology.
Ellinwood: Nichole Hartman, 2018 Ellinwood High School graduate, received a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in history. Hartman, daughter of Noell Hartman, Ellinwood, and Gary Hartman, Larned, plans to major in history; Jenna Oelke, a 2017 Ellinwood High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Oelke, daughter of Steve and Amy Oelke, Ellinwood, plans to major in radiologic technology; Avery Pike, 2016 Ellinwood High School graduate and a Hesston College transfer student, received a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Pike, son of Stacy and Tonya Pike, Ellinwood, plans to major in math education; Katelyn Reh, 2018 Ellinwood High School graduate, received a $1,000 FHSU Achievement Award. Reh, daughter of John and Kathy Reh, Ellinwood, plans to major in animal science; Abbie Reichuber, 2016 Ellinwood High School graduate and a Barton County Community College transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Reichuber, daughter of Gerald and Sharon Reichuber, Ellinwood, plans to major in animal science.
Ellsworth: Jeanae Brungardt, 2018 Ellsworth High School graduate, received a $2,000 University Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award. Brungardt is the daughter of Dale and Beth Brungardt, Ellsworth; Dodge Ellegood, 2016 Ellsworth High School graduate and a Hutchinson Community College transfer student, received a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Ellegood, son of Rob Ellegood, Ellsworth, plans to major in agricultural business; Zakary Jacobo, 2016 Ellsworth High School graduate and a Pratt Community College transfer student, received a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Jacobo, son of Maynard and Deanna Cunningham, Ellsworth, and Vincent and Sheila Jacobo, plans to major in biology.
Garfield: Edgar Garcia, 2018 Larned High School graduate, received a $2,000 Access to Academic Opportunity Grant. Garcia, son of Cesar and Micaela Garcia, Garfield, plans to major in radiologic technology; Candice Peterson, 2018 Pawnee Heights High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in biological sciences. Peterson, daughter of Shawn and Teresa Peterson, Garfield, plans to major in biology; Jordan Taylor, 2018 Larned High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award. Taylor, son of Tim and Dana Taylor, Garfield, plans to major in business.
Gorham: Christian Oxenford, 2018 Victoria High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Oxenford, son of Amanda Brungardt-Oxenford, Gorham, and Jason Oxenford, Hays, plans a career in pharmacy; Macey Steckel, 2018 Hays High School graduate, received a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in health and human performance. Steckel, daughter of Brandon and Jacque Jacobs, Gorham, and Jerod Steckel, Russell, plans to major in health and human performance.
Great Bend: Molli Banks, 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology. Banks, daughter of Jacqueline Urban, Great Bend, plans to major in psychology; Brittnee Barber, 2016 Great Bend High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $4,500 Phi Theta Kappa All-Kansas Academic Team Scholarship. Barber, daughter of Willy and Michelle Barber, Great Bend, plans to major in accounting; Antonio Carrasco, 2015 Great Bend High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Hoisington: Alexis Boeck, 2016 Hoisington High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Boeck, daughter of Tina Boeck, Hoisington, plans to major in accounting; Marisa Jonas, 2016 Hoisington High School graduate and a Pratt Community College transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Jonas, daughter of Steven and Katherine Jonas, Hoisington, plans to major in chemistry; Alexander Rziha, 2017 Hoisington High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Rziha, son of Scott and Robin Rziha, Hoisington, plans to major in agronomy.
Larned: Wesley Davis, 2018 Larned High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award. Davis, son of Joel and Jewel Davis, Larned, plans to major in chemistry; Hunter Fitzpatrick, 2018 Larned High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Fitzpatrick, son of Garet and Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Larned, plans to major in elementary education.
Lucas: Dylan Streit, 2018 Sylvan-Lucas High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in allied health. Streit, son of Seth and Erin Streit, Lucas, plans to major in radiologic technology.
Luray: Rudolph Haberer, 2018 Sylvan-Lucas High School graduate, received a $2,000 University Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in health and human performance. Haberer, son of Rudy and Rhonda Haberer, Luray, plans to major in health and human performance.
Lyons: Kassidy Clarke, 2018 Lyons High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in biological sciences. Clarke, daughter of Chris and Missie Clarke, Lyons, plans to major in biology; Hugo Fuentes, 2018 Lyons High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Fuentes, son of Hugo Fuentes and Adriana Landeros, Lyons, plans to major in biology.
Macksville: Emma Austin, 2015 Macksville High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,000 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Austin, daughter of Gordon and Audrey Austin, Macksville, plans to major in health and human performance.
Olmitz: Molly Schneider, a 2018 Otis-Bison High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Schneider, daughter of John and Stacy Schneider, Olmitz, plans to major in elementary education.
Rush Center: Caleb Karst, 2018 Pawnee Heights High School graduate, received a $2,000 University Scholar Award. Karst, son of Richard and Rhonda Karst, Rush Center, plans to major in agricultural business.
Russell: Heather Bitter, 1991 Russell High School graduate and an FHSU junior, received a $250 Kansas I-70 Association Tourism and Hospitality Scholarship. Bitter, Russell, plans to major in tourism and hospitality management; Nathan Bitter, 2018 Russell High School graduate, received a $2,000 University Scholar Award. Bitter, son of Brent and Paula Bitter, Russell, plans to major in computer science; Noah Gfeller, 2016 Russell High School graduate and a Pittsburg State University transfer student, received a $1,500 FHSU Transfer Student Award. Gfeller, son of Ron and Aimee Gfeller, Russell, plans to major in finance; Micah Nuss, 2018 Russell High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in applied technology.
