Great Bend Middle School volleyball teams are stepping up off the court by donating non-perishable food items.

Every year the GBMS volleyball program emphases the importance of helping those who are in need and the 2018 teams have gone the extra mile.

In addition to volunteering at the Children’s Miracle Network Fundraiser coordinated by Sherry Marcic in the Wal-Mart parking lot in September, the volleyball teams had a friendly competition seeing who could bring in the most items.

Digging deep, the teams were able to collect over 1,300 non-perishable food items smashing the previous year’s amount.

The seventh-grade squad bought in the most items but in the end, everyone helped through the Wheatland Food Drive will be the true winners.

“All of these girls continuously amaze us this year with their performance on the court,” said Michelle Barber, GBMS eighth-grade coach. “Seeing how they are so dedicated off the court to helping others makes us even prouder as coaches.”
