The NBA-style stretch of four games in five days for the Barton Community College men's basketball team concludes with games against Eastern Oklahoma and Brown Mackie at the Cougar Booster Club Classic this weekend.

"It is four good teams," said Barton coach Craig Fletchall, speaking about the classic. "It is a good way of closing out the home campaign for 2008."

After this weekend, the Cougars will not return to the friendly confines of the Barton Gymnasium until Jan. 10 against Dodge City.

Barton enters the classic with a perfect 7-0 record after destroying the Sterling JV 106-46 Wednesday. The victory over Sterling was the fourth time the Cougars have scored over 100 points as they are winning games by an average of 41 points.

Trying to derail the Cougars first will be an Eastern Oklahoma (1-4) that fell only to No. 1 ranked Cowley College 76-66. The Mountaineers should be the best defensive team Barton has seen this season, as they are holding their opponents to just 72 points an outing.

The Mountaineers have had to brave a similar schedule to the Cougars', as they have already played three games this week.

"Eastern Oklahoma has had a similar week to us as for games," Fletchall said. "They are going to come in battle-tested."

On Saturday, Barton's slate does not get any easier, as they host Brown Mackie (3-3). The Cougars and Brown Mackie annually play the most exciting game of the non-conference season.

In the last two meetings, Barton's stars have had their coming-out party against the Lions. In 2006, Omar Johnson scored 29 points and sank the game-winning three-pointer with one second remaining in overtime to lift the Cougars past the Lions 95-92. Last season, Barton's duo of Chris Jackson and Qa'rraan Calhoun each scored 20 points or more en route to a 77-67 victory.

"Every year, Brown Mackie is a fun game to play in," said Fletchall. "Coach (Francis) Flax does a great job and he told me at the beginning of this year this could be one of his best teams."

The Lions will play a similar style to years past, fast and physical.

"They are going to be as athletic as we have seen," Fletchall said.

If the Cougars want to continue their winning ways and improve to 9-0 before the Thanksgiving holiday, they will have to play their two best games of the season to date.

"With the level of competition this week, we have to play four good halves," said Fletchall. "We can not have any drop-off when we go to our bench."

Both Barton's men and women begin the classic against Eastern Oklahoma, with the men at 5 p.m. and the men at 7 p.m. today. Saturday, the women will play the Central Christian JV at 5 p.m., while the men play Brown Mackie at 7 p.m.
