John Lee Hurley 1935 - 2009

LYONS — John Lee Hurley, 74, died Nov. 6 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. He was born Oct. 13, 1935, at Mountainair, N.M., to Clinton F. and Beatrice E. Wrather Hurley Sr. He married Nora Mae Brown on Sept. 4, 1971, at Independence, Mo. She died Nov. 2, 2002. A Lyons resident since 1988, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colo., he was a shipping clerk at Ampex in Colorado Springs.

Mr. Hurley was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ in Colorado Springs.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie C. Likes, Hutchinson, and Joyce Smith, Lyons; a sister, Wilma Groom, Carlsbad, N.M., and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clinton F. Hurley Jr.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons with the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Donations to the John Hurley Memorial Fund may be made in care of the funeral home.
