Thomas G. McBride 1923 - 2009
November 13, 2009 @ 1:36pmThomas G. McBride, 86, of Great Bend died Nov. 9 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 2, 1923, at Seminole, Okla., the son of Hugh Allan and Martha Ethel Gwinn McBride. Thomas attended Varnum High School, Seminole County, Oklahoma.
He married LaNettia Marie Tauscher on Sept. 14, 1947, in Hoisington. She passed away Jan. 29, 1999. Thomas then married Onita (Stanton) Michel on March 4, 2003, at Great Bend. She survives.
He was a district manager for Baker Packers for more than 30 years. Thomas had been a resident of Great Bend since 1964, coming from Shreveport, La. He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving in World War II in the 8th Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 180, both of Great Bend. Thomas also was a member of the American Petroleum Institute, Society of Petroleum Engineers and KIOGA.
Survivors include his wife, Onita, of the home; two sons, Michael McBride of Wichita and Thomas McBride and wife Jennifer of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Cathy Wierman of Wichita; a brother, Hugh Allan McBride of Enid, Okla.; four stepchildren, Ron Michel and wife Mary of Hutchinson, Edward Michel and wife Gloria of Dodge City, Jan Middlemist and husband Mark of Holton, and Jeri Meier and husband Dennis of Muskogee, Okla.; four grandchildren, Sgts. Zachary Wierman and wife Amy, Megan Wittrock and husband Justin, Miranda Stanolivich and husband Jon, and Ashley McBride; and three great-grandchildren, Shawn, Joshua and Madilyn Stanolivich. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl McBride, Lucille Erickson and Mary Hensley, brothers Morris McBride and Bob McBride, and infant brother Clarence McBride.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Peter Fernandez officiant. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Donations to a memorial fund for Hospice House of Reno County may be made in care of the funeral home.
