Elnora L. Steitz 1923 - 2009

Elnora L. Steitz, 86, of Great Bend, died Nov. 16 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born Jan. 2, 1923, east of Bison, the daughter of George P. and Clara Scheuerman. Elnora married Victor Steitz on July 29, 1945, at Otis. He passed away Dec. 6, 1959. She was an assistant cashier and bookkeeper for Bison State Bank for 30 years before her retirement in 1991. She also worked as the Bison city clerk from 1989 to 1998. She was a resident of Great Bend since 2001, coming from Bison.

Mrs. Steitz was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis and a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki L. Anderson and husband Robert D. of Great Bend and Linda K. Stone and husband Robert R. of Topeka; one brother, Gary N. Scheuerman of Garden City; three grandchildren, Sheri Stone of Hays, Heather Miessler and husband Ron of Great Bend, and Traci Hockett and husband Lance of Abilene; and two great-grandchildren, Kirsten N. and Kylee G. Miessler, both of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Glenn.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiant. Interment will be at the Otis Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations to memorial funds for Sunflower Diversified Services and for the church may be made in care of the funeral home.
