Billie Huff 1917 - 2009

CLAFLIN — Billie Huff, 92, died Nov. 28 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born March 9, 1917, at Leoti, the daughter of James Franklin and Kate (Thompson) Elder. She married Wayne E. Huff on June 27, 1943, at Topeka. He preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1995. She worked at the Claflin Clarion from 1950 to 1969 and also was the city clerk for the City of Claflin for 30 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1982. She had been a Claflin resident since 1950, coming from Leoti.

Mrs. Huff was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Dorcas Doers, Claflin VFW Auxiliary, Naomi Fellowship, former member of the Claflin Boosters and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Plus 55 transportation, all of Claflin.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Huff and his wife Melanie, Westminster, Colo., and Jerry Huff and his wife Linda, Bushton; a brother, Junior Elder and his wife Mary Jane, Topeka; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, five sisters, daughter-in-law Dee Huff and two great-grandchildren, Noah Thompson and Adam Huff.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at United Methodist Church, Claflin, with the Revs. Gene Langhofer, Brian Thompson and Bill Salmon officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Youthville Home, Independent Township Library or Hoisington Food Bank, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.
