In March, 2015, Elea Durr, a paramedic volunteering with Hoisington EMS, attended the ceremony where her former mentor, Hoisington EMS Director Joyce Pace, was posthumously inducted into the Kansas EMS Hall of Fame. The solemn occasion caused her to reflect on the part Pace had played in her life, encouraging her to pursue her passion for providing emergency medical care to those in crisis situations.  After what was supposed to be just an information interview in 2003, Elea had walked out of Pace’s office carrying a uniform, a radio and an on-call schedule, wondering what she had just gotten herself into.
