Certified counselors available to assist with affordable care signups

Two Certified Application Counselors (CAC), from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center are available to assist in signing up for affordable, income-based health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. The annual open enrollment period runs through Dec. 15. 

Amy Horine and Torry Ericson are available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 15 to assist individuals, families, and small businesses shop and compare health plans. Appointments are required and be made by calling 620-513-3780 or 620-665-2514. Additional times for sign up may be available, including Saturdays, as the deadline approaches. The free counseling is for any Kansan who needs sign up for assistance. 

Plans include essential health benefits including outpatient services, chronic disease management, emergency services and prescription drugs. After a review of income status, the CACs will determine the applicant’s eligibility for plans and if any assistance is available to help pay for coverage. 

No one can be denied coverage or be subject to a waiting period as the result of a pre-existing condition. All policies are effective on Jan. 1, 2020 for a period of 12 months. 

During the past five years, more than 90,000 Kansans have signed up for coverage during the annual enrollment process.
