Clara Barton Hospital and Clinics strive to provide quality health care close to home and announces the expansion of its pediatric care services, with the addition of pediatrician Dr. Kayla Johnson to the Clara Barton medical team.
Johnson (formerly Klug) is an Odin native and attended undergraduate school at Fort Hays State University. After obtaining her undergrad, she attended medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Salina and graduated with her doctorate in 2015. Johnson then completed her pediatric and chief residency in 2018 at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita and is board certified in general pediatrics.
Both Johnson and her husband loved growing up in a small town and look forward to raising their children in a similar environment after recently moving back to the area.
“I’m excited to return to my roots and work in an environment that is progressive and passionate about caring for the local community,” said Dr. Johnson. “We love the people in this area and the community pride they share, and we are ecstatic about being closer to our families.”
Johnson’s primary goal as a pediatrician is to establish trusting relationships with patients and their families so she can provide guidance in preventative medicine and growth/development, in addition to caring for acute and chronic illnesses.
“One of the most rewarding things about being a pediatrician is having the opportunity to watch children grow up and establish a relationship with their family,” said Dr. Johnson. “I want the parents of my patients to always ask questions if they are unsure and encourage them to never feel guilty about advocating for their child.”
Outside of work, Johnson enjoys exercising and spending time outdoors with her husband and three young children, as they love to both play and watch sports.
“While having conversation with Dr. Johnson about returning to the area, it was obvious that her and her family were the perfect fit for Clara Barton,” said Jim Blackwell, Clara Barton Hospital President/CEO. “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Johnson home and are excited to offer yet another specialty service to our community. The addition of pediatrics will be a huge asset, and we look forward to continuing to provide top-notch care for our patients.”
Dr. Johnson is now accepting new patients from birth to 18 years of age at Clara Barton Medical Clinic, located at 250 W. 9th Street in Hoisington and Russell Family Medical Care, located at 410 Main Street in Russell. To make an appointment in Hoisington call 620-653-2386 and to make an appointment in Russell call 785-483-3811.
