WILSON – Pianist Sergio Gallo, a winner of the Global Music Award and a Steinway Artist, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Midland Mercantile, 423 27th Street in Wilson.

Gallo, a professor of music at Georgia State University in Atlanta, will perform: “Alma Brasileira” by Heitor Villa-Lobos; Nocturnes Op. 15, Nos. 1 and 2 by Frederic Chopin; “L’isle Joyeuse” by Claude Debussy; “Transcendental Etude No. 5 Feux Follets” by Franz Liszt, “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 19” by Liszt and “13 Variations on Es var einmal ein alter Mann” by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Gallo joined Georgia State University in fall 2006, having previously served as faculty at the University of North Dakota and Millikin University. Additionally, he serves on the faculty for Rocky Ridge Music Center’s Adult Piano Seminars.
Gallo is the winner of concerto competitions of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra and the University of California Symphony. He has received a grant from the Henry Cowell Incentive Funds at the American Music Center in New York, NY, and has toured North Dakota with a Challenge America Fast-Track Review Grant award from the National Endowments for the Arts.
Gallo is a Bösendorfer artist and records for the Eroica label. His recordings have been reviewed by Gramophone Magazine and American Record Guide.
The concert is part of the Classical Music on the Plains series sponsored by the Midland Railroad Hotel in conjunction with Rocky Ridge Music Center.
