ELLINWOOD — Preparations for Ellinwood Hospital & Clinic to move into its new facility are underway. The hospital and clinic are on schedule to be fully operational to the public on August 1.
Equipment and furniture installation is finishing up and the excitement of the employees and patients alike can be felt throughout.
“It has taken a massive amount of scheduling, planning, and time to be able to get us to this point,” said Bill Athey, project coordinator. “We just have one final coordinated effort to move and before you know it, the facility will be done, open, and serving its patients.”
All of the departments in the new facility are excited for their new space, especially the new Therapy Services Department. The gym area will be equipped with all new, state-of-the-art equipment that is rare to find in a rural Kansas health-care setting. In addition, the department is excited to announce that they have hired a new Speech Language Pathologist, Jessica Mulch. She is married to Cole, who is from Ellinwood, and has a son, Kenny. Jessica is from Wichita and graduated from K-State with a degree in elementary education. She received her master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from Western Kentucky University and is completing a medical externship at Geary Rehabilitation.
Mulch has completed research while in school on treating aphasia and apraxia of speech in adults post-CVA, otherwise referred to as a stroke. She has experience in treating all ages in speech, as well as swallowing and cognition.
“I can’t wait to be a part of the Ellinwood community,” she said. “Being able to do the job I love in the place I love is a dream come true!”
Mulch will be at Ellinwood Hospital & Clinic full-time starting at the beginning of August, but is already doing some on-site training and learning the ropes.
Ellinwood Hospital & Clinic is greatly looking forward to opening its new doors to the community and welcoming Jessica Mulch, SLP onboard the Therapy Services team.
