ELLINWOOD – Friends and admirers of artist Rhea Grandon gathered Sunday afternoon to celebrate her birthday and the opening of her gallery wall at the Ellinwood Emporium, 2 N. Main.

The gallery includes her favorite subjects and newer interests. She is a master of portraits and does paintings on commission, such as completing a portrait of Goldie Hawn, but she really enjoys capturing an interesting face as she sees it.

Her favorites often include the indigenous people of the Southwest.

Most recently, Rick Casagrande asked for her to cover a gallery wall in his emporium with the emphasis on Kansas. Painting 15 pictures in 15 days, Grandon fulfilled Casagrande’s request. Many of the small paintings include sunflowers, windmills, old trucks and fence posts.
