A-440 Music Store, 1207 Main Street in Great Bend held an Open Mic Night on July 10, where two local music studio’s participated. Glenna Gaunt of Gaunt’s Music Studio announced the winners from the studio’s sight-reading contest at the evening’s event. First place winner of the sight-reading contest was Lexi Ratcliff of Great Bend, successfully completing 68 exercises. Second place winner was Haley Troyer, of Ellinwood, successfully completing 21 exercises. Third place winner was Jadynce Schroeder of Great Bend, successfully completing 20 exercises. All of the winners also sang at the open mic night along with other voice students from Gaunt’s Music Studio. Piano students from The Brass Piano, owned by JoAnn Suchy also performed at the open mic night. Suchy teaches using a method that is playing based, rather than reading based, however the method does teach students note reading, chord structure, improvisation, various styles, accompanying and composition. Store manager Jared Wheeler said he holds open-mic night several times throughout the year. Check at A-440 Music Store to find out when the next open mic event is scheduled.
