Housing Opportunities Inc. celebrated the construction completion of its newest addition in Great Bend, Quail Cove, by hosting a Great Bend Chamber of Commerce coffee and ribbon cutting on April 28.
HOI’s Executive Director, Callie Miller, addressed the group and shared the excitement. Quail Cove offers 24 duplex units with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, storm shelter, and 1 car attached garage for seniors over 55 who income-qualify. HOI provides all appliances, lawn care, snow removal, and trash service for the duplexes.
HOI is a nonprofit organization that helps provide quality and affordable housing in seven communities across four Kansas counties. They currently cater mostly to seniors, but also have some family units. The next project will service the IDD community (adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities) as HOI partners with Sunflower Diversified Services.
HOI currently has nine full-time employees. Since 1996, HOI has been helping people in the community find housing. They currently have 234 units available. The next project will add an additional 28 units with more to come in the future, Miller said.
“HOI is dedicated to helping our communities with the housing shortage. We are diligently working on future projects and look forward to helping meet the demand and lessen the housing burden,” she said.
