The United Way of Central Kansas held its annual Jeans Day on Nov. 15, to honor National Philanthropy Day. The premise was easy. Businesses could opt to participate and every employee was encouraged to wear jeans for a $1 donation to UWCK. Each employee that was then entered into a drawing at their business to enter the final round to win a free pair of BKE jeans, donated by The Buckle. This year, over 20 local businesses participated and raised more than $600 for United Way to help on the way to the goal of $275,000. The finalists gathered at The Buckle to determine who the winner of free pair of jeans was. The name was drawn by Sally Mauler, manager of The Buckle, and the winner was Linda Reschke from Jefferson Elementary. “United Way appreciates all the businesses and employees that participate in this every year. It is a great way to physically show the community that we are United Together,” said UWCK Executive Director Julie Bugner-Smith.
