Barton County approaching 100th COVID-19 case
Survey shows ICU beds, ventilators available

Barton County had three new COVID-19 cases confirmed Sunday evening, bringing the total in the county to 95 positives, 45 males and 50 females. Of these, there are 30 active cases and there have been three deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Friday morning saw two new cases, both males from Great Bend.

Saturday afternoon there were four more cases, one from Great Bend, two from Hoisington and one from rural Barton County.

Sunday’s three cases were two males and one female, one from Ellinwood, one from Great Bend and one from Hoisington.

The county has issued 961 quarantine/isolation orders and 269 of those are still active.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment updates its numbers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As of 9 a.m. Monday, KHDE reports there have been 26,172 cases statewide, resulting in 1,644 hospitalizations and 355 deaths. There have been 252,764 negative tests.

There were 1,063 new cases and nine new deaths from Friday, July 24.

Totals for other area counties were: Rice 22, Ellsworth 16, Russell 8, Ellis 115, Rush 5, Ness 5, Pawnee 7, Edwards 9, Stafford 2 and Reno 214.


Hospital Capacity

Sixty-seven hospitals reported on hospital capacity. They have 724 ICU bed and 689 ventilators. There were 373 ICU beds in use, 58 by COVID-19 patients, leaving 48% of the beds available. There were 106 ventilators in use, 24 by COVID-19 patients, leaving 85% of the ventilators available.

There were 212 COVID-19 patients admitted.

The south central region extends west to Pawnee County and north to Barton County (but does not include Rush or Ellsworth counties), east to Butler and Cowley Counties (but not Chase County) and south to the state line. There were 15 hospitals reporting in this region. There are a total of 223 ICU beds and 212 ventilators; 105 ICU beds are in use (24 by COVID-19 patients), leaving 53% of the ICU beds available. Twenty-seven ventilators are in use, 11 by COVID-19 patients, leaving 87% of all ventilators available.
