Barton County COVID-19 surge continues
28 new cases in one week; 15 from Wednesday to Friday

Barton County’s total number of COVID-19 cases increased by 15 from last Wednesday to Friday, July 23, with no additional deaths or hospitalizations. There were 28 new cases here from the previous Friday, July 16.

Thirty-three virus specimens from Barton County have now been sequenced at 16 (48.48%) were variants of concern; three were the alpha variant and 13 were the delta variant.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports there have been 327,267 COVID-19 cases to date, resulting in 11,511 hospitalizations and 5,239 deaths statewide. There were 1,539 new cases, 66 new hospitalizations and 21 new deaths since Wednesday.

Total confirmed and probable cases to date for area counties are:

• Barton 2,670 (+15 since Wednesday)

• Ellsworth 1,224 (+2)

• Pawnee 1,184 (+1)

• Rice 1,088 (+3)

• Rush 438 (+1)

• Russell 883 (+3)

• Stafford 354 (+3)
