Great Bend High School has revised plans for the final night of Be the Light, scheduled for Friday, May 15. After considering feedback from the community on the previously announced balloon launch, the event will now feature an on-field tribute to be unveiled at 9 p.m. under the lights at Great Bend High School’s Memorial Stadium.

“We appreciate the feedback from our community as we look for ways to honor the graduating class of 2020,” said Randy Wetzel, vice-principal of GBHS. “While the intentions of this effort were genuine and heartfelt, we acknowledge that sometimes a good plan has to be tweaked to become a great plan.”

Although no commencement ceremony will be held this weekend, Wetzel shared that staff will be setting up chairs and balloons on the field to mark this milestone and moment for 216 graduating seniors.

Similar to previous Be the Light tribute nights, the community is asked to remain in their vehicles to view the lights, banners, and on-field tribute. Gatherings are not permitted under Phase 1 of the Kansas Reopening Plan.
