July 5 marked the kick-off of the Kansas Climate Smart Initiative with Conservation Districts across the state working to bring information about the program to producers. Stop by the Barton County Conservation District office at 926 S. Patton Road Friday morning and grab coffee and a donut and learn more. Applications will be available to take or fill out.
Sign-up is happening now through the end of the year, with terms ranging from 1 to 4 years, producer’s choice.
Checks for year one are expected to go out in March.
A goal of signing up 100,000 acres in Kansas over a four-year period is underway.
This is a program that is for producers already growing cover crops and those who want to give it a try. Also, if it has been planted into a cover crop since January 1, 2022, it is still eligible.
