Are You a Lifelong Learner?
Donna Krug clr

One of the things that make my career choice as exciting today as it was 27 plus years ago is the fact that I can help others learn ways to improve their quality of life. Whether it is answering a question related to health and wellness or explaining results from a higher than normal radon test I enjoy helping find answers to their questions. I consider myself and the people I serve to be lifelong learners and I find that exciting.
Last May the Family and Consumer Science Agents from the Northwest area of Kansas met with staff from Nex-Tech TV in Hays. Our roundtable discussion that day has led to a great relationship being established through a series of Extension Ed Talks. Perhaps you have heard of or watched TED talks on your computer. TED, which stands for “Technology, Entertainment, Design” is a non-profit media organization which records talks online for free distribution under the slogan “ideas worth spreading.”
TED was founded in 1984 and its’ early emphasis was technology, but it has since broadened its focus to include talks on many scientific, cultural and academic topics.
If you would like to check out the topics of the Extension Ed Talks that have been recorded so far go to our web site: www.barton.ksu.edu/. Our office professional, Brenda, has put a link to these 30 or 60 minute You Tube videos and you can check out one or all thirteen of the Extension Ed Talks. I have recorded shows titled, Stay Strong, Stay Healthy, Simple Seasonal Meals, When Bigger isn’t Better, and our most recent one, Mindful Meditation with Do-In. None of us presenters are polished TV personalities but we are passionate about sharing research based information about subjects that you may be interested in. The Extension Ed Talks really are “ideas worth sharing.”
Let me know what you think of the Extension Ed Talks and feel free to give us ideas for topics that we could schedule in the future.
