Barton Community College’s Dance Department will host “Celebration Dance, Spring Dance Festival” at 7 p.m. April 27 and 28 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. Children ages four and younger and Barton students get in free. For additional ticket information, visit shows.bartonccc.edu.
Barton Dance Department Coordinator Danika Bielek said the concert is designed to highlight dance talent in the community by dancing about the many ways we celebrate life. Each night will offer a unique experience, featuring different guest artists, Barton’s dance classes and Barton student choreography.
“The show will honor the many positive things in our lives like hope, perseverance, creativity, beloved holidays and unity,” she said. “There will be plenty of opportunities for the audience to join in the jubilee! The festival will also feature dance groups from the region including the Azteca Folklorico Dancers, Barton Dance Theatre, Danceography and Euphoria Dance Centre.
Guest dancers featured on April 27 include the Azteca Folklorico Dancers and Euphoria Dance Centre. Dancers from Danceography studio will perform April 28. They will share the stage with Barton’s dance technique classes and the college’s dance company, Barton Dance Theatre.
Bielek said positivity and collaboration are the key elements to this performance.
“Throughout the history of humanity dance has been part of many celebrations,” she said. “When we are feeling good, we have this natural instinct to get up to move and dance! This year our dance department wanted to give back to the community with an uplifting message remembering all the good in our lives. We are excited to share the stage with our talented dance partners in the region too. It’s going to be a blast!”
