The Barton Community College Instrumental Music Department will present a tribute to popular music in the United States spanning several decades titled “The Great American Songbook,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Free general admission tickets are available at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The experience will feature the Prairie Winds Concert Band, Barton Jazz Ensemble, and Barton’s rock band, “The Riff.”
Director of Instrumental Activities Dr. Luis Palacios encourages music lovers from every generation to come and enjoy the canon of the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century.
“This is iconic music,” he said. “They’re truly songs that have stood the test of time in their life and legacy. Many of the selections were published during the ‘Golden Age’ of this genre, including those popular and enduring tunes that were created for Broadway musical theater and Hollywood films.”
