Norma (Parten) Bright of St. John will celebrate her 80th birthday on Sept. 30 with a card shower.
Norma was born Sept. 30, 1930, at Kimbrough, south of Eureka. She moved to Beaver in 1936 and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1948. On June 27, 1948, she married John Russell Bright in Beaver, moving to St. John where they both still live. The couple has six children, Michael and wife Alicia Bright of Napa, Calif., Connie and husband Bruce Carey of Sterling, Keith and wife Kathleen of Salina, Carol and husband Don McLeod of Oswego, Coette and husband Robert Lewis of Wichita, Carmen and husband Steve Hamilton of North Lyon, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and more on the way.
Norma loves and cares for her family with significant skill and talent. She has been active in their children’s and husband’s lives through the years. As the family grew, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and children. As a multi-skilled and talented seamstress, Norma has been making afghans, baby quilts, throws, marriage quilts, embroidered items for everyone in her immediate and extended family numbering in the hundreds. She has won many ribbons and awards for her skills. She is active in the First Baptist church, St. John Mothers Club since 1950’s, Red Hat ladies, and has volunteered through the years for many groups and events. She continues to be actively involved with her family, community, and faith.
