Dr. Edward L. “Dusty” Jones will celebrate his 80th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on March 21, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2400 Washington, in the Fellowship Hall. Friends, family and associates are invited to attend.
Dr. Jones was born during a dust storm in Wellington. After graduation at Dodge City High School he attended the University of Kansas and KU Medical School and graduated with honors. He interned at St Francis Hospital in Wichita before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard. He was assigned for two years at the Fort Yuma Indian Hospital in Winter Haven, Calif. After practicing general medicine in Lawrence he entered a Pathology residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Dr. Jerry Sayler MD, hired Dusty in 1969 at Central Kansas Medical Center, later with Rex Degner MD and retired from the hospital in 2015. He was appointed District Coroner for districts 20 and 24 and continues to serve those positions. Dusty married Barbara Blount in Larned in 1956. They have four children, Kim, Sheila, Matt and Tom. Barbara passed in 1998. He married Debbie Ahrens/Clarke in 2003. Together they have nine children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
