Wilda Whala Merten

Wilda Whala Merten will celebrate her 80th birthday with a come-and-go Reception from 1 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 11 at Barton Art Center, 1401 Main Street (corner of Main and Forest), Great Bend. Hosts of the reception are her children and grandchildren.
Wilda was born on Feb. 7, 1932, at Seminole, Okla. She married Jack L. Merten on Feb. 23, 1957. Their children and spouses are Lahree and Ken Jenkins of Comanche, Okla., and Michael and Pam Merten of Great Bend. They have five grandchildren.
Wilda graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1950. Her work experience included secretary for attorneys in Great Bend and Oklalhoma City. She retired from the Feldt Law Office in 1997 and went into business as Cottonwood Yarn & Needlecrafts. She teaches crochet and knitting for the Great Bend Recreation Commission.
