Catch ‘The Polar Express’ book, craft

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, we have a special Polar Express Story Time. Put on your favorite PJs to listen to a reading of “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg while you sip on hot cocoa and snack on delicious cookies, just like the characters in the story. Once we finish the book, we will make a Christmas craft. Later that same day at 2 p.m. we will be having a Christmas movie matinee with popcorn and other treats to enjoy. When you’re done at either event, be sure to stop by our Family Portrait Photo Op to snap a photo for this year’s holiday card (or maybe just a nice photo to send Grandma). The photo backdrop will stay up until Dec. 22. When available, staff will be happy to assist with taking your family photo.

For December’s Teen Manga & Anime Club meeting next Thursday at 5:30 p.m., we’ll be reading and discussing the RWBY manga before watching the first episode of the “RWBY: Ice Queendom” anime. Afterward, we’ll be making custom manga art in the shape of our initials! At the end of the meeting, you can pick up a list of the series we’ll be covering next semester. Copies of “RWBY” (pronounced “Ruby”) are still available for checkout at the front desk.

Also happening on Thursday is our next Adult Craft Night. This time we will be making lap desks. These provide a great surface for your laptop, a portable table for snacking, or a convenient workstation for small projects. Craft night starts at 6 p.m.

Next Friday, pick up a Teen Takeout kit with the ingredients needed to make your own Onigiri, better known as rice balls, a delicious snack made with sticky rice. If you want to snag your own recipe bundle, don’t wait to grab one while supplies last!

Last but not least, the deadline is coming up for our Cardboard Gingerbread House Contest. Create style recycled materials to look like a gingerbread house and submit your creation by December 16 to see if you will be crowned the Gingerbread House Master!
