Celebrate participation in Walk Kansas with Wise Bucks Luncheon

The first week of the 2016 Campaign of Walk Kansas is in the books. The temperatures were great for walking or other outdoor exercise but the wind made you work a little bit extra. I rode my bike as much as I could to work and local meetings. It was especially fun when I had a tailwind!
We ended up with around 250 signed up for the Walk KS program; that translates to over 40 teams! There have been some glitches with the new web site design and move toward on-line enrollment. Brenda, at our office, has done a great job of getting everyone signed up and ready to report those minutes of exercise.
I have enlisted the help of my Family and Consumer Science Program Development Committee to assist with the “Wise Bucks Luncheon” which is set for this Wednesday, April 13, at the Great Bend Recreation Center – Burnside Room. We should be ready to serve by 11:30 a.m. and will keep the food hot until 1:15 p.m. or so to accommodate the various lunch hours people have. This luncheon is free to anyone who has signed up and paid their registration for the Walk KS program. I would appreciate an RSVP no later than tomorrow from those who plan to participate so that we can plan for food.
The menu will consist of a Mexican buffet along with dessert and beverage choices. Participants will be given a set amount of play money and the choices they make cost different amounts based on the fat, sodium, and sugar content of each menu item. Jamie Rathbun, Family and Consumer Science Agent with the Midway Extension District, will be on hand to review the handout material and help participants understand the importance of making healthy choices.
Give our office a call or e-mail Brenda or me so your name can be added to the luncheon participants. I hope to see you Wednesday!
