The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 at the Club at StoneRidge. President Rose Kelly opened the meeting with the flag salute and Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. Thirty-nine members and one guest, Edith Treece, were present.
Treasurer Danelda St. Aubyn reported a paid membership total of 105. Yearbooks for 2011 were distributed and it was noted that only names of paid members are listed. Those with unpaid dues are not on the membership list and therefore cannot be contacted by the calling committee. Dues of $20 are still payable. Yearbooks will be mailed in January to members not present today.
Secretary Norma Ward handed out sheets for reporting volunteer hours and urged everyone to record their community service hours. Rose Kelly recognized members who had birthdays in October, November and December. The Dodge City Area Association is creating a cookbook to support the Kansas Teachers’ Hall of Fame and would like all personnel to send recipes to Judy Jones. Rose Kelly has the forms needed for submission of recipes.
For the Necrology report, Judy Fox read memorials for Marcella Stitt, formerly of Great Bend, and Verlin Rogers, Larned. Laverne Lessor, Nominating Committee Chairman, stated that an installation ceremony was not required since current officers are continuing in their positions for 2011. He announced that volunteers are needed to perform in a talent show at the KARSP convention in June, and there will be no auction at the barbeque dinner.
Vice-President Mary Bieberle introduced Andrea Gardner and her Great Bend Middle School singers, “Music in Motion,” who presented a varied program of Christmas music in song and dance that was enjoyed by all.
Any newly eligible retired school personnel interested in joining may contact Membership Chairman Kayleen Kern or President Rose Kelly. Members get together for luncheons in September, December, March and May.
The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on March 11 at the Club at StoneRidge. The program will be Alicia Westoff speaking on “Acute Rehab – Central Kansas Medical Center.”
