The Progress Club met on March 16 at the First Presbyterian Church. Seventeen members were present for the program presented by Heather Smith of the Great Bend Police Department on “Human Trafficking Here at Home.”
Many years serving in law enforcement allowed Heather to bring an informative discussion of sex crimes. She discussed sex trafficking, prostitution, massage parlors and abuse of children. One in six boys and one in three to four girls are affected. Sex offenses are defined as “any recruitment or harboring of any boys or girls under the age of 18, in order to commit to sex by force or fraudulent means.”
