The Great Bend Garden Club would like to remind the community that now is the time for arranging for names of loved ones as Christmas memorials to be added to one of the memorial plaques hanging in the Rose Garden of the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials can be created by anyone and can be accomplished with a phone call to Delores Grose at 620-792-4466.
Thirteen members of Great Bend Garden Club met recently and enjoyed a program of information and memories about “Animals in the Garden” during a program by Nancy Swafford. Using a favorite book inherited from her mother, entitled The Wise Gardener’s Encyclopedia, Swafford shared information about the both helpful and harmful critters which we find in our gardens and asked the club members to share both irritating and humorous experiences with the likes of moles, gophers, rabbits, deer, bats, squirrels, toads, frogs, lizards, skunks and snakes.
During the meeting Kay Hallenbeck served delicious fruit crepes and a variety of small muffins as refreshments.
Next month’s meeting will be on Nov. 21 at the Barton County Extension Office meeting room with Jeannine Girton giving the program and Nancy Williams serving as hostess.
