Beta Sigma Phi Preceptor Pi chapter members pause near one of the signs in My Backyard Playground during the playgrounds grand opening. The sign posted by the Great Bend Recreation Commission thanks all of the supporters who assisted in making the playground a reality. Members of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi took special pride in attending the December grand opening of My Backyard Playground on the grounds of the Great Bend Recreation Commission Activity Center, 2715 18th, knowing their contributions helped make the playground a reality for their community.
The chapter began making donations to the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation, presenting monetary gifts to Kyle and Tasha Krebaum for the foundation they started in 2008, in memory of their daughter, Makinna, to help local children who have special needs.
To date, the chapter has donated more than $6,200 to benefit the foundation’s objectives, including the goal of building a special-needs playground for the community.
Last year, when the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation joined the Great Bend Recreation Commission by combining resources, the organizations working together were able to reach their common goal sooner than expected to build a playground for children of all abilities.
Preceptor Pi now has a brick on the walking path within the playground and the chapter is listed as a contributor on a sign posted on the playground.
This month, Preceptor Pi members made a new donation of $265 to the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation as they plan to continue their support of the foundation’s goals to help children who have special needs.
