The new 2011 President of Rotary asked members for a worthwhile local project and got a suggestion from Dr. Roger Marshall to plant a windbreak at the new sports complex.
The Rotary members agreed that the project had merit and to support the project to the full amount their budget would allow with possible additional funding coming from Dr. Marshall.
The trees were to be purchased from the Kansas Forest Service and consisted of 500 trees of which 250 were fragrant Sumac, 250 Eastern Red Cedar with even some being a Pine trees. The trees were to be planted on the north side of the property.
On Oct. 5 Roger Marshal in cooperation with city crews, volunteers, several high school honor students and Rotary club members planted the new windbreak. The good men do will far outlive them.
