Decorate a Christmas stocking
Book Nook.jpg

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s already the first week of December, which means we have some fun holiday events planned. But before I get into the fun stuff I want to remind everyone we will be closed Monday, December 6 for a staff training day. Now to the festivities: We have an ongoing Christmas Stocking Decorating Contest that lasts until Thursday, December 16. We are accepting entries in the following age categories: 0-4 years old, 5-8 years old, and 9-12 years old. Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a stocking in the Children’s Area or at the front desk. You are welcome to decorate your stocking here at the library or take it home to craft your masterpiece.

Our original plans for our Polar Express Party on Saturday, Dec. 4, had to be scaled back due to unforeseen circumstances. It is no longer an interactive experience, and so registration is not required. We will still be showing the movie in the Children’s Area at 10:30 a.m. and serving hot chocolate and treats to our guests as they come and go. Before you leave, be sure to take advantage of our holiday photo op, which will actually be up in the DVD Section through Thursday, December 23. If available, staff will be happy to help take your photo.

Next Tuesday, December 7, teens grades 6-12 are welcome to come enjoy a cup of coffee or cocoa and engage in some de-stressing activities at the Teen Café, which runs from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Thursday, December 9, at 6 p.m., is this month’s Teen Manga and Anime Club meeting, where we will be watching and discussing Dragon Ball. After the episode, we will get festive and make our own themed popcorn balls and ornaments.

Also at 6 p.m. Thursday evening, adults can look forward to this month’s Adult Craft. Erin will teach you how to take a beloved family photo and turn it into a special wood ornament, perfect to adorn your tree or give as a gift to a loved one.

On Saturday, December 11, teens and adults can join us at 11 a.m. to upcycle old sweaters into cozy slippers!
