Registration is open for two September events that share the goal of preventing suicide.
The 11th-annual Golden Belt Glow for Life 5K/1 Mile Walk & Remembrance Ceremony takes place on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 16.
One week later, the third annual Pedal for Prevention - Devin’s Memorial Bike Ride, is set for Saturday, Sept. 23.
Both are intended to raise awareness about suicide and raise money to support local suicide prevention education.
The pre-registration entry fee for Glow for Life is $25. Registration by Thursday, Aug. 31, guarantees a T-shirt, glow accessories and snacks. Make checks payable to the Suicide Prevention Task Force and mail them to: Golden Belt Glow for Life, The Center for Counseling, 5815 Broadway, Great Bend, KS 67530.
Check-in for Glow for Life will start at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the large shelter on the west side of Veterans Memorial Park. (Late registrations can be taken there starting at 6 p.m. The cost is $30.) There will be a Remembrance Ceremony at 7 p.m., followed by the warm-up at 7:15. The run starts at 7:30 p.m.
Registration for the cycling event Pedal for Prevention is $20. Participants will meet at the bike ramps in Brit Spaugh Park at 6 p.m. on Sept. 23. They will travel the route to the Bicycle Campground and proceed to Veterans Memorial Park, ending at the large shelter on the west side of the lake.
