The Great Bend Garden Club met May 18, at the Cottonwood District Extension Office Meeting Room. Jeannine Girton was the hostess.

There was discussion about the Memorial Rose Garden at the Great Bend Cemetery. The garden will be re-structured in the future and new rose bushes will be planted. The city staff from the cemetery is working with the garden club on this project. It was suggested that they be invited to a fall meeting to update the club on the progress.

Members signed up for hostess and program duties for the new year, starting in the fall.

Kim Roach, guest speaker, from “Yours Truly” Gift Store and Flower Shop located in Great Bend, demonstrated how to make a saddle flower arrangement for a cemetery headstone, using beautiful silk flowers. The arrangement could also be used as a flat spray to lay on the ground.

Members were in awe of the finished product.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 19.  Guests are always welcome.
