Join us in celebrating the Ellinwood Chamber’s Christkindlmarket Storywalk® Of The Polar Express, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 5, sponsored by and beginning at Ellinwood School/Community Library in downtown Ellinwood.
StoryWalk® is a fun, educational activity that places a children’s story outside (or in store windows) to allow people of all ages to combine physical activity while reading a book. Conceived as a way to inspire parents, teachers, and caregivers to take young children out of doors for physical activity and to learn. StoryWalk® helps build children’s interest in reading while encouraging healthy activity for both adults and children. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt. and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. We hope you enjoy StoryWalk® being hosted by the Ellinwood School/Community Library. Please let us know if you would like to have another StoryWalk® and suggestions of when is a good time to have it. Thank you and have a good Christkindlmarket!
Ellinwood School/Community Library is pleased to display The Twelve Days of Christmas, A Series of Original Plates by Haviland & Co.
Up until now, The Twelve Days of Christmas have been concerned about birds; A Partridge in a Pear Tree; Two Turtle Doves; Three French Hens; Four Colly Birds. Christmas 1974 will see the first in the series to depart from these subjects with the appearance of Five Gold Rings, portrayed by three colorful cupids gracefully juggling the golden circles. As in most fairy tales, many things are left to ones own imagination and a lot of people think of Five Gold Rings as being of the type worn on the fingers. Hetreau chose to think of them as golden hoops gracefully tossed in the air. This is just one of the twelve plates beautifully displayed by JoAnn Roth with the help of her friend, Judy Hayes.
The Twelve Days of Christmas, A Series of Original Plates by Haviland & Co. is owned by Kent and JoAnn Roth and acquired through his brother, Tom Roth, Haviland appraiser and antique dealer in Denver, Colorado. Many thanks to them for sharing this beautiful collection with our community!
