The students at Sterling College will perform their final full-length play for the 2015-16 theatre season. “Hedda Gabler,” a drama by Henrik Ibsen, will take the stage at 8 p.m. on April 14-16, in Culbertson Auditorium. Tickets will be available at the box office at 7 p.m. on show nights, and doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
Premiered in 1891, “Hedda Gabler” is described as a classic of realism. Hedda is a newly married Norwegian who finds married life to be boring and does not seem to love her husband, George. Hedda’s ex-lover, Eilert, returns to Oslo where Hedda and George live, with a newly published work and a new relationship with Hedda’s old schoolmate, Thea. Eilert is completing a sequel to his published work when Hedda decides to meddle in Eilert and Thea’s relationship. After a few unfortunate events set up by Hedda, she and Eilert find themselves in desperate situations with tragic endings.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, students and children. Parental discretion is encouraged as some scenes contain intense situations.
The cast of “Hedda Gabler” includes: Katie O’Brien of Upland, Calif., as Hedda; Nathan Sizemore of Clearwater as George; Alyssa Hershey of Wichita as Thea; Wesley Lowrey of Topeka as Eilert; Bobby Foster of Sterling as Judge Brack; Laura Clark of Kansas City as Julia Tesman; and Alexis Engelken of Wamego as Berta.
