The Grassroots Arts Center at Lucas is now exhibiting the sculptures of William “Pat” Wigley, who creates unique figures from silver plated flatware utensils, and trees made of high voltage power cable wire. A reception for the artist will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 14, at the Grassroots Arts Center. The public is invited and the exhibit will be on display until March, 2016. Admission is free.
Pat was born in Wichita, and after he moved frequently as a child, has lived in Blue Springs, Mo. for 36 years. He has worked as a heavy equipment operator, paramedic and a cable splicer for Kansas City Power and Light. His tree creations are made of the material he uses as a cable splicer.
He made his first sculptures for the Arts Council of Metropolitan K.C. program called “Art at Work – Inspiring the Work Place.” The pieces on display include a graceful ballerina, a dragonfly, roses, hummingbird and flower, and other birds – all made of silver plated spoons, forks and butter knives. Anyone who sees them can appreciate their beauty and uniqueness. Help us welcome the artist on Nov. 14, and stop in to see the sculpture show.
Winter hours for the art center are 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday -Saturday.
