I'd be lying if I said I had imagined what Space Mountain would look like with the lights on more than once. Well, now I know. - photo by John Clyde

OUTER SPACE I went to Disneyland just a few months ago with my family and had a magical time filled with 100-plus degree weather, long lines, crying children and a serious hit to my bank account.

But all in all, the memories were worth it and I also managed to burn an insane amount of calories.

One of the attractions we made sure to ride was Space Mountain. The roller coaster is a famous one at Disneyland and the line is always long. It doesn't include the death-defying drops of some of its counterparts, but it is a blast as you make sharp turns and sudden dips in the dark. You don't know what's coming next and it makes for a fun and exciting ride.

As I rode on Space Mountain recently I had the thought cross my mind, "What does this place look like with the lights on?"

Well, now I know.

Theme Park University released this video of a rare ride on the famous attraction with all the lights on and most of the magic gone.

For me, it felt like a magician telling me how the trick was done after he amazed me with it. I was so shocked by the illusion that I couldn't stop myself from begging for the reveal. Then I get it and realize there isn't much to the trick and I'm left without the magic I once held.

OK, that got a little dramatic and this video isn't that disappointing. The ride still looks pretty fun and I'm ready to get in that seat again and switch off all the lights and take another ride through Space Mountain.
