Led by Service Chair Karen Reif, members of Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met and decorated 44 bags for Halloween, filled them with candy and delivered them to Brookdale. While there, they were given a tour and were able to visit with some of the residents. Afterward some of the members went to Braum’s for ice cream.

At another meeting this month, there was discussion about the December service project of donating personal hygiene supplies to the Care Closet at the Middle School.

On Friday, Nov. 18, members and their spouses/friend enjoyed a traditional thanksgiving dinner provided by Linda Woods from Rush Center at the 1st Christian Church

There were two programs this month. Brenda toured the Hutchinson Correctional Institution with her niece who is a Classification Administrator there. At the first meeting, she described her visit, offering her impressions and a bit of the history of the facility.

At the second meeting, Janis Link invited Jan Perez the Community Liaison for Barton County Core Community to talk about that program whose goal is “not to alleviate or reduce poverty but to solve it.” It is all about giving people a hand-up out of poverty starting with a 20 week course that addresses not just finances and budget but the many other things that keep people in poverty. Jan shared success stories about families who journeyed completely out of poverty, i.e. home ownership, debt resolution, new careers, college degrees.
