Members of the Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi had a busy October. Karen Reif, the Service Chair, proposed decorated bags of candy for various holidays for residents in Brookdale. The Halloween bags were decorated after meetings and will be filled and delivered on Oct. 31.
A few members were available to serve at a wedding reception as a Ways and Means project.
Seven members traveled to Lyons and had breakfast at Scrambled Sams plus a tour of the Coronado Quivira Museum. The museum was interesting, chronicling the travels of Francisco Coronado into the area, the Quivira Indians he found there and the life of the settlers in the very early 1900s. At the second meeting, the Social Committee (Judy Krebaum, Cindy Meitler and Lois Johnson) provided a snack buffet and members enjoyed a Halloween Word Search.
In honor of the 150th anniversary of Great Bend, Judy Krebaum told of the first settlers coming to the area in 1870 and the city being incorporated on Sept. 18, 1872. She spoke of the increase in population and businesses as Great Bend grew from an early cattle town into the oil industry by the 1930s. Judy gave each member a commemorative 150th anniversary pin as they shared when and why they had first come to Great Bend.
